Rhizomatiks x WIRED to host a new outdoor event at Akasaka Ark Hills, where you can experience Tokyo through sound

Apr 26, 2016

SOUND & CITY, a new type of event that allows you to experience the future with a theme of "sound," will be held on April 28th and 29th at Ark Karajan Place in Ark Hills, Akasaka, Tokyo.

SOUND & CITY, which was held this spring to coincide with the confluence of three facilities at Ark Hills - WIRED Lab, TechShop Tokyo, and KaleidoWorks, by Rhizomatiks and the Japanese edition of WIRED - is a new type of event that allows you to experience the future through the familiar theme of "sound," based on the concepts of "interaction with the city" and "new imagination." On the main stage at Ark Karajan Place, multiple talk sessions will be held on themes such as music, business, and technology. A talk session titled "Evolving Entrepreneurs" (tentative title) will be held on the 28th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM featuring representatives from the three facilities, including WIRED Japan Editor-in-Chief Kei Wakabayashi, Rhizomatiks CEO Seiichi Saito, and TechShop Japan CEO Shoichi Arisaka. On the 29th, from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM, Akira Morikawa, founder of the fashion video service "C Channel," will also be held at the main venue, ARK Karajan Place. Other events, including "The Virtual Orchestra" by the Philharmonia Orchestra, one of the UK's leading orchestras, will feature VR and instrument experiences incorporating digital technology. Also, "Trading Garden" is a time-travel installation that transports visitors to the Showa era of Azabu-Tanimachi, a former neighborhood in ARK Hills, by donning a headset and riding a Honda UniCub. Other events include "Play Me, I'm Yours," which connects people and cities with a single piano; "Radio Buffet," where participants can create their own original radio using a kit; "Future Music & Shoes Experience," which uses shoes as an interface to collect and analyze body and environmental data to create various solutions; and "Rez Infinite - Synesthesia Suit," where participants can enjoy the "Synesthesia Suit," which interactively responds to game sounds. Special live performances by artists will also be held at the main venues, ARK Karajan Square and ARK Hills Cafe. Participating artists include Akiko Nakayama, Seiho, Tofubeats, Ei Wada, and Hifana.
