Fashion designer and artist Eri Matsui will publish her collection of works, "Sensing Garment," on April 30th. Eri Matsui is a wedding dress designer with overwhelming support from women. Since 1998, she has focused on the relationship between nature and humans, and between clothing and humans, and has been creating clothing in collaboration with scientists and mathematicians. This book, the culmination of six years of work, includes for the first time a catalog and text on the clothing she has collaborated with researchers to date. Using clothing as a medium, the book explores themes such as "self and other," "thought and sensation," "perception," "words," and "clothing as a three-dimensional object." It also introduces clothing patterns as unfolded diagrams and Eri Matsui's unique theory on clothing design. To commemorate the book's release, a talk show featuring Eri Matsui will be held at the Aoyama Book Center main branch on May 17th. The first part will feature Professor Aihara Kazuyuki from the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo, who will speak from a scientific perspective, and the second part will feature Esteem Press representative Naito Junko, who will speak from a fashion perspective. There will also be an original movie screening and a fashion show presentation featuring a model. Each session is limited to 100 people, and details on application can be found on the Aoyama Book Center main store official website (http://www.aoyamabc.jp/event/sensinggarment).
