BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE is collaborating with artist Sputniko! to release the second installment of its EDITION series on October 12th. The series, titled "Super Moon!", features one larger-sized tote bag and two clasp-style clutch bags. Available in three colors—red, blue, and monochrome—each bag features a mix of three platinum-colored triangular pieces. All bags come with special packaging designed by Sputniko! and are priced between ¥63,000 and ¥126,000. The bags will be available in Japan at Shibuya Parco, KITTE, and Fukuoka Iwataya, and overseas in Paris, London, New York, Taiwan, Bangkok, and Singapore. Sputniko! was born in Tokyo in 1985. After graduating from Imperial College London at age 20 with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, he went on to complete a Master's in Design and Interaction at the Royal College of Art (RCA). While there, he attracted attention for his work, which reflected the changing nature of humanity and society as a result of technology. He participated in exhibitions such as "Tokyo Art Meeting Transformation" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2010) and "Talk to Me" at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York (2011). This year, he became an assistant professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab. Furthermore, BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE regularly collaborates with external creators for its EDITON series. The first release, released in July of this year, featured limited edition bags and pouches designed by art director and graphic designer Naomi Hirabayashi.
