Isetan Matsudo store remodels entire building with a focus on baby boomers, grand opening on October 2nd

Sep 26, 2013

The Isetan Matsudo store will hold its grand opening on October 2nd after a complete remodel. Opened in 1974, this remodeling project will further deepen its local market presence, targeting not only the traditional baby boomer generation but also the growing number of families in the area, including the junior baby boomer generation. With "children at the center" as its slogan, the store aims to establish a new business model for regional department stores supported by three generations of parents and children.

The remodeling will prioritize expanding customer touchpoints to fully meet local needs. While meeting department store needs such as gift demand through independent sales by unit shops, the store will expand into areas where the department store is lacking by introducing leading specialty stores. The store also aims to create a "hybrid" store by effectively arranging independently managed and specialty store areas and coordinating event promotions to achieve synergistic effects.

The main building will span from the basement to 11 floors above ground, while the new building will span from the first floor above ground to the ninth floor. The first floor of the new building will house a new event space, representing the entire building. New additions include hat retailer CA4LA; cosmetics brands John Masters Organics, Erbaviva, Davines, and SINN; cafe La Maison Ensoleille Table; and grocery store Kitano Ace. The second and third floors are designed for a casual atmosphere, catering to the baby boomer generation. The second floor also features a new "Skip Kids Cafe," a café with an attached play space for parents and children. The main building will house "Untitled Gallery," a store curated by World this season, along with Kitamura, Swarovski, Laura Ashley, Kid Blue, and the nail salon Nails Unique. The new building will also feature "Mackintosh Philosophy," "PLST," "Comme Ca Style," and accessories retailer Marulani Hawaii. Additionally, the "Bornelund Play World" complex, located on the sixth floor of the new building, will make its department store debut. Aimed at the baby boomer generation, the mall will offer new areas for deepening hobbies. The 8th floor will house Junkudo Bookstore, the largest in the Joban Line area, covering approximately 1,800 square meters and stocking approximately 500,000 books, and Maruzen Stationery. In December, the outdoor shop Kojitsu Sanso is scheduled to open.
