Gucci has collaborated with actor and film director Yusuke Iseya's REBIRTH PROJECT to present the exhibition "Meoncentric Theory" in the event space on the third floor of Gucci Shinjuku. The exhibition runs until October 6th. This March, Gucci was an official sponsor of the International Equestrian Championships held in Kakegawa, Shizuoka Prefecture, and the REBIRTH PROJECT exhibited objects made from recycled materials at the event. This encounter led to a mutual understanding between the REBIRTH PROJECT, which has a creative perspective and works for the planet and society, and Gucci, which pursues social and environmental sustainability. "With the rapid development and penetration of the internet-centered information society, human values have become more diverse and hyper-fluid. I coined the term 'Meoncentric Theory' to describe this social situation," Iseya said. In the dimly lit exhibition space, a giant figure-eight-shaped "Meoncentric Model" floats, its tubes filled with fluidly morphing objects (chips made from recycled Gucci prints). Within the object, several sound and light sources move, illuminating the space in complex ways. Laser projections create paintings on the walls, and, combined with the shadows of the light sources emanating from the objects, the concept of holocentrism, expressing fluctuation and flow, emerges. At the entrance, visitors are given chips made from recycled Gucci prints. A participatory device allows visitors to leave their mark—and become part of holocentrism—by tying their fortune slips to tree branches. The exhibition is directed by artist Akira Fujimoto. It sends a message that modern society is expanding in a multifaceted way, offering infinite possibilities for the future.
