"British Exhibition" held at Shinjuku Isetan. From one-of-a-kind antique chairs to the popular Lola's Cupcakes

Nov 3, 2015

From November 3rd to 9th, Isetan Shinjuku will be hosting a "British Exhibition" showcasing British lifestyle brands, gourmet food, and general merchandise. The event space on the sixth floor of the main building will feature traditional furniture reflecting the British lifestyle, as well as tableware and custom accessories for enjoying the latest in modern living. Lloyd's Antiques, a shop specializing in British antique furniture, will be offering a limited-edition leather wing chair (78cm W x 81cm D x 120cm H, seat height 52cm, 285,000 yen). Wallpaper (68cm x 10m, 2 rolls, 37,800 yen) modeled after the bookshelf pattern of British textile manufacturer Andrew Martin is a unique item that can give a room a British feel. Aynsley, a ceramics manufacturer founded in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, in 1775, will release the Pembroke Cascade Bowl (approximately 14cm diameter x 18cm height, 30,000 yen) as part of a collection designed in the image of Imari ware. Additionally, during the event, starting at 1:00 PM on November 8th, an "Aynsley Porcelain Art Class" will be held, where participants can create their own original sandwich tray by applying their favorite transfer paper to the fabric of a tray that was not produced in production (maximum 20 people, participation fee: 8,100 yen including tax). In addition, there will be a wide variety of gourmet food and drink at the venue. Bespoque, a gastropub symbolizing British pub culture, will open its first store at Isetan Shinjuku, and a special eat-in corner will be set up, offering dishes such as sausage and mash (1,400 yen). Also making its debut will be LOLA'S Cupcakes Tokyo, a popular cupcake shop from London that just opened in Japan this fall. H.R.Higgins, a coffee and tea retailer with its flagship store in Mayfair, central London, will be releasing a limited edition of 50 items in the "Coronation Collection 2015 Red Box" (14,000 yen), which contains a total of four types of coffee, including Galapagos San Cristobal and Jamaica Blue Mountain.

During "British Week," which will be held on each floor of the store, a number of items featuring Isetan's tartan check pattern (Macmillan/Isetan) will be sold as special items in conjunction with the Isetan Grand Founding Festival. The first floor handbag zone will feature a collaboration between ANNA SUI and Isetan, with a tote bag (12,000 yen) lined with Macmillan/Isetan and a handbag with the same pattern (25,000 yen), while the fifth floor living area will feature an RDF tote bag (7,000 yen) with an Okayama denim lining and the same pattern.

The men's accessories zone on the first floor of the Men's Building will feature Endymion Eau de Cologne (20,500 yen) from Penhaligon's, a fragrance house that holds a warrant for the British Royal Family, and a Margaret Howell trench coat (78,000 yen) will be on sale on the sixth floor of the same building.
