"Christmas with Art" exhibition by 10 artists including Akira Uno and Chiharu Sakazaki, the artist of the Suica penguin, to be held at Shinjuku Isetan

Nov 11, 2015

The Christmas project "Before Winter Comes: Christmas with Art 2015" kicked off on November 11th at Art & Frame on the 5th floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. It runs until the 24th.
The event features an exhibition and sale of artworks by 10 creators that will make you long for winter. Of particular note are new works by four artists, including Akira Uno, Chiharu Sakazaki, Machiko Miroko, and Ayako Ishiguro, as well as original artworks created specifically for the exhibition.
Akira Uno, a leading Japanese illustrator, will exhibit original artworks created specifically for the exhibition. Chiharu Sakazaki, whose solo exhibition "Penguins in All Forms" was recently held in March, will follow up her popular Penguin Alphabet with a new print called "Penguin Number." Machiko Miroko, who directed the Christmas season at Isetan last year, will be creating new artworks for her "Animals Living in Scandinavia" and "Stray Cats You Meet on the Street" series. The exhibition will also feature the first prints from Ishiguro Ayako, a yokai artist who is also popular for her cat-themed works, including her "Joy, Anger, Sorrow, Happiness, and Sorrow" series and her "Old Toy Play" series.

Six other artists, Donna Wilson, Higuchi Yuko, Rob Gidney, Takahashi Makoto, Taroout, and Wisut Ponnimit, will exhibit their popular acrylic box art. There will also be autograph sessions with the artists. Sakazaki Chiharu will appear on November 15th, Ishiguro Ayako on the 21st, and Miroko Machiko on the 23rd, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Numbered tickets for the autograph sessions will be distributed to the first 50 people each day who purchase a framed item at the exhibition.
