Interior designer Yasumichi Morita held his first solo exhibition, "Porcelaine Nude," in Paris on November 12th, showcasing his photographic works for the first time. The exhibition took place at Espace Commines, a space in the Marais-North that serves as a showroom for high-end brands like Alexander McQueen and a venue for the Paris Fashion Week. The intriguing exhibit showcases a new dimension, a departure from the glamorous worldview Morita has previously shown. While maintaining his usual concept of capturing angles of light and shadow, this time around he focused on black-and-white close-up nude photographs, creating works that require thought before they can be recognized at first glance. Having collaborated with many French people, Morita commented, "I find the French way of communicating, which challenges the other person to consider, intriguing," suggesting that his friendship with the French influenced the concept of this exhibition to some extent. On the day of the event, Morita will be showcasing eight types of platinum print photographs (limited to four of each), large-format piezo print photographs (13 types, only one of each), stools featuring these photographs (10 types, only one of each), a coffee table (open edition) that can hold the large-format photographs, and a set of eight photo print plates (limited to four sets) in collaboration with Bernardeau, a leading manufacturer of Limoges porcelain. Morita said he was particularly inspired by the long history and craftsmanship of the Bernardeau workshop. Following the Paris terrorist attacks, the French government ordered a three-day closure of public facilities, resulting in the exhibition being cut short after two days, instead of the planned three-day run that ended on the 15th. However, Yasumichi Morita, who was appointed a French Tourism Goodwill Ambassador this year, is likely to have even more opportunities to use France as a base for his activities in the future. Each work can also be purchased on the website yasumichimorita.com.
