Hat designer Misa Harada, who captivates celebrities around the world, will hold her first solo exhibition in Japan in Ginza

Nov 18, 2015

"HATS OFF! - Hats of Praise," the first solo exhibition in Japan by Misa Harada, designer of London-based hat brand Misa Harada, will be held at the Pola Museum Annex in Ginza, Tokyo, from November 20th. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in London, Harada worked as a designer for the hat brand Frederick Fox. Her hat garnered significant attention when it was chosen to be worn by Queen Elizabeth II in the parade celebrating her 50th anniversary. Since launching her own brand, Misa Harada, in 1998, she has built a reputation for designing hats for Janet Jackson's world tour, as well as for a wide range of celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Maria Sharapova. Her hats have also been featured in TV dramas such as "Sex and the City" and "Ally McBeal." Currently, Harada has established himself as one of Britain's leading hat designers, with his works sold in approximately 200 stores in around 10 countries around the world, including the long-established department store Fortnum & Mason in his native England, Le Bon Marché in Paris, and Bloomingdale's in the United States.

The title of the exhibition, "HATS OFF!", means "Well done!" or "I'm impressed!", similar to the Japanese expression "take your hat off." The venue is divided into four sections: "Creation," "Collection," "Client," and "Collaboration." From concept sketches and the production process, including a replica of Harada's hat-making workroom, to his latest works, visitors can get a glimpse into the hats he makes and the creative process behind them.
