60s fashion event held at Daikanyama EVA and Shinjuku Isetan

Jun 19, 2014

Daikanyama vintage boutique "EVA" has launched a limited-time event, "Vintage Dress," selling 1960s vintage items and original labels at the West Park Decade on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku store. The event runs until July 1st.

EVA is a shop that offers designer vintage items sourced from Europe and America, as well as original labels. Its idea of reviving historical clothing has earned it a following among fashion enthusiasts. This time, EVA's unique style skillfully blends the colorful, pop fashion of the 1960s, a trend for the AW 2014-15 season, with modern tastes.

A dress (29,000 yen) made in the style of a paper dress, which was hugely popular in America in the 1960s, is available exclusively at the store. As the name suggests, a paper dress is a dress made of paper, a cheap, disposable garment made in the United States. The dress features slightly narrow armholes, a mini length, and graphic prints, all elements popular in the 1960s. The simple design, with only bust darts, makes it a fashion item symbolic of the 1960s, a time when clothing was cheap, light, and disposable. This time, the 100% cotton fabric, featuring African-inspired geometric and fruit patterns selected by Eva, has been waxed to recreate the crispness and sheen of a paper dress. Also available exclusively at the store are a knee-length quilted skirt (24,000 yen) with a trapezoid design reminiscent of the 1960s, and a denim skirt with front pockets (26,000 yen). The dress eschews curved elements like draping and instead uses textured materials, a trend for this fall and winter, to blend the vibes of both generations. In addition to clothing, there will also be accessories to coordinate retro-pop fashion, such as vintage scarves (15,000 yen), vintage earrings (9,000 to 12,000 yen), and brooches (9,000 to 15,000 yen) from Pierre Cardin.
