Blue Bottle Coffee Japan, LLC will open "The Lounge -Kyoto-" on the second floor of Blue Bottle Coffee Kyoto Café Hanare on March 20, 2021.

The Kyoto Café is Blue Bottle Coffee's eighth location in Japan and its first in the Kansai region. Located near Nanzenji Temple, the café is a renovated, two-story traditional Kyoto townhouse that is over 100 years old. Guests can enjoy the beautiful, orderly structure of its heavy pillars and beams, as well as the rough yet tasteful exposed earthen walls, all of which make use of the existing architecture. Since its opening in March 2018, the café has been serving memorable flavors to countless guests in its open, spacious atmosphere.

With the desire to offer a new coffee experience, we have prepared a coffee course that can only be experienced here, among all Blue Bottle Coffee cafes worldwide, in the Kyoto Cafe's special location and space, where history and the seasons are strongly evoked. Enjoy coffee prepared using the latest theories and traditional brewing methods, along with seasonal desserts, while experiencing the history and passion of coffee that has been passed down through the generations.

"The Lounge -Kyoto-" is a boldly renovated space on the second floor of the Kyoto Cafe's street-facing annex, preserving the warm atmosphere of a traditional Kyoto machiya. Passing through the noren curtain created by BUAISOU, an indigo dyeing brand from Tokushima Prefecture with whom we have collaborated on numerous occasions, you enter the seven-seat lounge, which is open only to customers with reservations. The design was handled by Schemata Architects, the same team that designed the Kyoto Cafe. Features include large glass windows that let in natural light toward the courtyard, tatami flooring, and sharp-looking Knoll wire chairs that add a touch of contrast, creating an extraordinary atmosphere while also allowing guests to relax and unwind.
