Nihonbashi's first cherry blossom-colored illuminations offer an early winter cherry blossom viewing experience

Nov 13, 2015

The cherry blossom-themed light-up event "NIHONBASHI ILLUMINATIONS collaborated with FLOWERS" (hereafter referred to as "Nihonbashi Illuminations") will be held for the first time in various locations in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, from November 20th to February 11th.

The theme of "Nihonbashi Illuminations" is "spring." Starting November 20th, various locations in the Nihonbashi area will gradually light up with spring flower-themed illuminations by Naked, a creative group specializing in spatial design. The flowers will gradually bloom throughout the city, reaching full bloom in the New Year.

The four facilities that will bloom on November 20th are Coredo Muromachi 1, Coredo Muromachi 2, Coredo Muromachi 3, and Coredo Nihonbashi. Box-shaped illuminations will be installed on both sides of the entrances of each facility, and when they are lit, patterns of flowers waiting to bloom will be projected behind the shining lights. Before Christmas, the boxes will be covered in vibrant flowers. On December 11th, the Mitsui Main Building, a designated Important Cultural Property, will also bloom. Cherry blossom-themed illuminations will be projected onto the building's exterior walls. The illuminations change pattern in sync with the wind. Also, starting on the same day, the Nakadori street between Coredo Muromachi 1 and Coredo Muromachi 2 will host the "Hanami Paper Lantern" event, where 100 paper lanterns will be decorated with floral patterns. Special lighting will be performed regularly throughout the event. Also, during the Christmas season from December 22nd to 25th, participants will be able to participate in the lighting of the show. In addition to a bouquet, participants will receive tickets to the affiliated event "FLOWERS BY NAKED," which will be held at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall from January 8th to February 11th. The main artwork at the event is a collaborative piece with Akane Teshigahara, head of the Sogetsu Ikebana School, allowing visitors to experience the ephemeral beauty and vitality of real flowers through cutting-edge digital art. In addition, there will also be a limited-time giveaway of "COTTON FLASH CANDY," a glowing cotton candy inspired by cotton fluff.
