Vivienne Westwood has collaborated with contemporary British restaurant Aqua Shard to create a Christmas tree and limited-edition sweets for a Christmas charity project.
The magnificent 5.5-meter Christmas tree was specially designed by Vivienne Westwood and her husband and design partner, Andreas Kronthaler. It was created as part of a collaboration with Cool Earth, a rainforest conservation organization that the couple have supported for many years, working to return rainforests in South America, Africa, and Oceania to the control of local communities.
The tree is decorated with delicate fairy lights and beadwork made by Awajun women, who are supported by Cool Earth. The importance of rainforest conservation is also expressed by wrapping the tree in a lace patchwork curtain. In addition to the tree, the restaurant will be selling limited-edition chocolates (3.95 euros) in special packaging made with cacao grown by the Ashaninka people of Peru at aqua shard and online. The wrapping paper was designed by Vivienne Westwood and Cool Earth, inspired by the traditional patterns used in Ashaninka clothing. The design features Vivienne Westwood's "destroy" plaid graphic, as well as messages related to protecting the earth and rainforests, such as "Time to Act" and "Mirror the World." Desserts made with this chocolate will also be available. The menu includes chocolate mousse adorned with candy, soft meringue and pistachio parfait, plum marshmallow and sorbet, and a platter of wine jelly and cranberry cream. The bar will also be selling chocolate cocktails made with Johnnie Walker Blue Label whiskey. All proceeds from the chocolate and desserts will be donated to Cool Earth's rainforest conservation partners.
