Jun 21, 2014

Novelist and screenwriter Françoise Sagan was born on June 21, 1935, in Honfleur, France. She passed away on September 24, 2004. Her debut novel, "Hello, Sadness," was published at the age of 18. It became an international bestseller and brought her fame upon its publication. Between 1996 and 2006, she published works such as "A Certain Smile," "Goodbye Again," "A Separation," "Brahms," and "A Little Sun in the Water," many of which were adapted for film. Her works explore themes of love and loneliness between men and women, often depicting the tranquil lives of the bourgeoisie. She also had a close relationship with philosopher and novelist Jean-Paul Sartre, and her works are influenced by existentialism. Her later works, "Blood Like Watercolors" and "Summer's Embrace," deal with the Nazi regime and the resistance movement during World War II.

In the 2001 film "The Royal Tenenbaums," a woman named Margot Tenenbaum was modeled after her. PAUL & JOE SISTER's SS14 collection was inspired by the film "Goodbye, Sadness."

In her private life, she lived a wild life, indulging in gambling, alcohol, and drugs after gaining wealth and fame at a young age. She was always the subject of curious gazes and much gossip.
