Maison Martin Margiela presented its Spring/Summer 2015 women's collection in Paris on September 26th. The inspiration for the collection came from a pamphlet published by the British government in the 1940s, "Go through your wardrobe." The book, packed with tips for women on how to remain elegant even during wartime, served as the starting point for the collection's ideas. The collection's signature designs include hand-painted daisies on oversized coats and ribbon ties on jackets, reimagining husbands' old clothes for women. The sleeves of men's jackets are attached to ladylike dresses, and pants are cut at the back of the knee to create a feminine, flared line. The combination of opposing elements, masculine and feminine, is a specialty of the Maison. Clothes that have become too small to wear are adorned with ruffles made from scraps and worn as short tops. Another distinctive feature of this season's collection is the technique of adjusting the size with eyelets and ribbons to create new silhouettes. A silk georgette dress printed with hand-painted daisies features shirring details reminiscent of the 1940s and a replica silhouette from that era. A jersey top features a geometric jacquard fabric with painted daisies on the back, reminiscent of a tie. The tie fabric, which is also used for jackets, is woven by a long-established factory in Lyon. Other elements, such as argyle motifs, patchwork, and color usage, create a retro feel. Daisies are also used as a motif in accessories. Daisies, which bloom on roadsides and in gardens, are chosen as a symbol of the lives of ordinary people. The design, reminiscent of a flower crown made as a child, is nostalgic and adorable.
The highlight is the new bag with a unique design in which the contents of the bag, such as a wallet, key ring, and pouch, hang from metal rings. It was born from the reverse idea of taking the contents of a woman's bag out.
