Spanish artist Pablo Mesa's first Tokyo exhibition, "COLLAGENO," will open on October 18th at M ROOM in Daikanyama, Tokyo. Working extensively in everything from painting to apparel and store design, the artist has embarked on his first collage project, using carefully selected materials, primarily vintage Japanese magazines and maps. Focusing on the commonality between "collage" and "collagen," both of which share the Greek root "kolla" (glue), the work explores true beauty. Pablo Mesa was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1981. Born and raised near the Prado Museum, he began painting after graduating from design school and has since worked on corporate logo designs. He designed the Missoni store for Vogue Fashion Night in Madrid in 2009 and created exhibits for the Burgos Museum of Human Evolution in 2011. Since coming to Japan in 2013, he has held solo exhibitions in Nagoya, performed live paintings, and created corporate mascots.
