Actress Kate Elizabeth Winslet was born on October 5, 1975, in Berkshire, England.

Born into a family of actors and parents who ran an acting school, she entered a local drama school at the age of 11. While still a student, she began appearing in commercials and television dramas. Her film debut came in 1994 in "The Maiden's Prayer," which won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The following year, she appeared in "Something Else," starring Emma Thompson, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Her breakthrough came in 1997 in the Hollywood film "Titanic." In this film, Kate played the heroine Rose, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She quickly became a talented actress, attracting worldwide attention. Her subsequent performances in films such as "Iris" (2001), "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," and "Little Children" were all highly praised, earning her six Academy Award nominations. At age 33, she became the youngest person to receive six Academy Award nominations, a record that still stands today. In 2008, she played a Nazi war criminal in "The Reader," finally winning the Academy Award for Best Actress. That same year, she also appeared in "Revolutionary Road," achieving the remarkable feat of winning both the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2010, she founded the Golden Hat Foundation, a charity that supports children with autism. She was appointed an ambassador for the Swiss luxury watch brand Longines. The following year, she was chosen as a campaign model for the luxury knitwear brand St. John. In recognition of these achievements, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2012.

Meanwhile, in her personal life, she married Jim Threapleton, who was an assistant director on her starring film Goodbye Morocco in 1998. They had a daughter, Mia, in 2000, but divorced the following year. In 2003, she remarried film director Sam Mendes, but also split up in 2010. Then, in 2012, she married the nephew of Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin Group.
