LAD MUSICIAN presented their 15SS collection on October 20th at the Garden Hall in Ebisu, Tokyo.
This season, marking the brand's 20th anniversary, designer Yuichi Kuroda chose "SPACEMEN" as the theme and sought to incorporate his favorite styles. He even contacted his favorite musician, SONIC BOOM, for the collection.
The venue was enveloped in an aurora-like veil of lasers and smoke. The first thing that caught my eye were the psychedelic, graphic prints. This was a series created in collaboration with SONIC BOOM, and featured artwork from SPACEMEN 3, a band of which Kuroda was a core member, and SPECTRUM. The psychedelic and futuristic mood continued with three-dimensional, architectural details, such as hooded parkas reminiscent of spacesuits with ample room around the neck, and blousons and shirts with blurred, indistinct patterns. However, the look was unified with a minimalist, rad feel, styled with slim pants and using plain materials. Accessories such as delicate, laser-thin necklaces and bracelets added a subtle accent. Towards the end of the show, the models wore an all-silver-gray outfit, evoking a quiet intensity. Following the show, an after-anniversary party was held at the same venue. Live performances included Sonic Boom, Japanese alternative rock band The Novembers, and the VJ team DOMMUNE VIDEO SYNDICATE, led by Naohiro Ukawa.
