"Toki no Ba" opens at Shinjuku Isetan. Introducing "near-future living" made possible by robots

Oct 31, 2014

A new lifestyle space, "Toki no Ba" (Time Space), opened on the 6th floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku on October 29th. It's called "Toki no Ba" (Time Space). It offers a variety of services to enhance the "time" of each visitor. The word "time" doesn't simply refer to the time spent in the store. The key point is that the services are designed with each visitor's perspective in mind, from life's milestones to everyday moments—a moment, a day, a month, a year, and even the distant future. For example, there's a "health food space" for those seeking a healthier, more active lifestyle, and a "gift salon" offering innovative personalized gifts from designers and creators. What's more, there's even a "gift wrapping space" to beautifully decorate the "time" of both visitors and third parties. Items that can be wrapped do not have to be purchased at Isetan; you can even bring something from home (service fee: 500 yen). Of course, the space is stocked with a wide variety of papers and ribbons, so you can enjoy "time choosing the paper and ribbon to wrap your gift in" and "time watching the technician wrap it right in front of you."

In addition, in the "Promotion Space" that proposes a new future, you can enjoy the joy of new discoveries and interactions. As an opening promotion, the space is running "Near-future life made possible by robots" for 20 days until November 18th. Why not actually see and touch three robots that will be closely related to our lives in the near future and get a feel for "near-future life"?

When you see robots that were only a dream just a few decades ago, such as OriHime, a remote avatar device that gives you the feeling of being there with family and friends you miss, HAL(R), a robot suit that helps people with lower limb disabilities walk, and PALRO(R), a communication robot that can recognize faces and call out names, you will be deeply moved by the wisdom of humanity and may even feel a renewed sense of gratitude for your health and for the people you care about.
