British shoe brand Charlotte Olympia has opened a pop-up shop called "Perfect Kitty" in the women's shoe department on the second floor of the Shinjuku Isetan main building, featuring shoes and bags featuring the brand's popular cat face design. The shop will be open until November 4th. The shop will be selling a selection of items created in response to requests from Japan, including calfskin Hello Kitty flats (¥85,000 each), a velvet clutch bag (¥77,000), and a cat face-shaped pochette (¥96,000). Additionally, the brand will be selling its children's shoes (starting at ¥16,000), which are available in the UK and have attracted inquiries after being featured on the brand's Instagram and other platforms. The children's shoes also feature cat faces, allowing mothers and children to embrace the brand's unique worldview. Designer Charlotte Olympia originally studied corsetry with the aim of becoming a corset designer. Her teacher praised a shoe design she drew at the time, encouraging her to pursue a career in shoe design. She then created cat-face shoes as part of her collection for her shoe brand, which became a hit and became a symbol of the brand alongside the platform pumps "DOLLY" and the "spider" design on the bottom of the shoes. "In Japan, we don't have the same taxi culture as London, so flat shoes move better than high-heeled shoes. So, I asked her to make Hello Kitty shoes made of calfskin for Japanese customers. The velvet cat-face design was also suggested by us," says Hiromi Nakanishi, assistant general manager of Bluebell Japan's fashion division. The three items mentioned above, born from suggestions from Japan, will be part of the brand's collection and will be rolled out in other countries in the future.
