MARCELO BURLON COUNTY OF MILAN presented its Spring/Summer 2015 men's collection in a show format for the first time on June 19th. The collection was presented as part of "THE PITTI ITALICS," a program organized by Pitti Immagine Uomo to introduce the new generation of Italian brands. The program is run by the Pitti Discovery Foundation, which supports two Italian-based brands each season from among those whose designs and production are based in Italy. The outdoor show, held in Piazza della Libertà in the north of Florence, kicked off with a motocross bike performance. Marcelo's signature tribal and geometric prints, a mix of religious motifs and python, were joined by models drawn from the street, who then appeared one after another in a series of pieces showcasing extreme sports functionality. Ponchos, biker pants, windbreakers, sweatshirts, and T-shirts made from high-tech and reflective materials evoked team uniforms, creating a cross-cultural theme of masculinity evoking a modern-day hero.
Marcelo himself has been visiting Pitti Uomo since 1996, and presented a capsule collection at the last event. "It's very exciting to be able to showcase my roots and worldview in this place that has inspired me so much," he commented.
Marcelo Burlon is originally from Argentina and graduated from Saint Martins in the UK. He has worked in PR for major fashion houses and major sports brands. He is also known for his work as a PR representative for Riccardo Tisci. Based in Milan, he holds a variety of roles, including film producer, DJ, magazine editor-in-chief, creative director, and philosopher. In 2012, he launched his first T-shirt collection through his own company, County of Milan, and with the support of hip-hop artists Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, and G-Dragon of BIGBANG, his items sold out immediately after their release, gaining a wide range of fans around the world. The music for this show was provided by Marcelo himself and his graphic design collaborator, Giorgio Di Salvo, and after the show, the venue turned into a club, with the crowd going wild.
