ITOCHU Corporation has acquired exclusive import and sales rights for the American casual bag brand Eastpak in the Japanese market. The brand will be launched through its subsidiary, Coronet, starting with the Spring/Summer 2015 season.
In the Japanese market, the company aims to further strengthen Eastpak's global brand identity as a fashion brand, further increasing awareness and enhancing its brand value. While retaining its existing sales channels, including department stores, specialty stores, and select shops nationwide, it will also accelerate the expansion of new sales channels. The company aims to achieve sales of 2 billion yen (based on retail prices) within three years.
Eastpak was founded in 1972, with roots in duffel bags and backpacks produced by Eastern Canvas Products for the U.S. Army in 1956. Pursuing authenticity through materials such as water-resistant Cordura, the company has produced bags in vivid colors and all-over prints, and has expanded globally as a lifestyle brand for over 30 years. It became famous for being worn by the main character in the movie "Back to the Future."
Currently, in addition to their mainstay backpacks, they offer a diverse lineup of shoulder bags, accessories, Boston bags, and suitcases. In recent years, they have been actively collaborating with designers, releasing items with A.P.C., Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Kris Van Assche, and more. They are available at their shop in Jingumae, Tokyo, as well as select shops such as BEAMS and SHIPS, Tokyu Hands, and Loft.
