Designer of Italian leather brand "Drom" visits Japan and performs live painting at Shinjuku Isetan

Oct 5, 2014

A joint pop-up event between Italian leather brand DROMe and women's brand Twisty Parallel Universe is taking place on Stage 3 on the 3rd floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. It will run until October 7th. DROMe's first pop-up shop in Japan features approximately 30 items, primarily mouton coats and jackets, as well as approximately 30 dresses and tops from Twisty Parallel Universe, another fabric-focused brand created by Marianna, which is themed around art and photography. Marianna Rosatti also visited the store on the 4th. Regarding this season's concept, she explained, "The collection is inspired by London street culture and the underground atmosphere. The base colors are muted, such as dark blue, burgundy, and khaki. The graphic prints reflect street graphics." Also appearing were rider-style jackets with prominent zippers and stadium jacket-style items made of shearling. These heavy garments, available in a wide range of colors, showcase the potential of leather and fur. "While simple pieces are popular, I personally want fashionable Japanese people to wear pieces with a sophisticated design. Every time I visit Japan, I'm deeply inspired by Japanese fashion," Marianna said. She also shared her thoughts on design, saying, "I find inspiration in everyday small details, like the unusual and interesting shape of a coffee cup handle, and I piece them together like a puzzle to create my own designs. It's important to always keep an open mind." Also on the same day, Marianna's younger brother, Gabrielle, a drawing artist based in Italy, performed a live painting performance. His drawings have been used in Twisty Parallel Universe knitwear, and the brand has collaborated with Gabrielle on various projects. "I'm often inspired by his drawings and sensibility," she said. DROME was founded in 2009 by Ferrero Rosatti, the founder of the leather brand Santacroce, and his daughter Marianna, who was his right-hand man in charge of design. As an innovator of Italian leather, Ferrero had previously been responsible for all leather items for renowned brands such as Prada, Neil Barrett, and Jil Sander. The brand combines the high level of craftsmanship backed by his accumulated leather knowledge and experience with the creativity of Marianna, who loves art and culture. As they have their own factories, they are able to offer more affordable prices than other brands.
