What is "Peanuts"?
The Peanuts characters and related intellectual property are owned by Peanuts Worldwide, with WildBrain owning 41%, Sony Music Entertainment Inc. owning 39%, and the family of Charles M. Schulz owning 20%. Charles M. Schulz first introduced the Peanuts characters to the world in 1950, when Peanuts debuted in seven newspapers. Since then, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang have left an indelible mark on pop culture. In addition to beloved Peanuts shows and specials on Apple TV+, fans around the world enjoy Peanuts through a wide variety of merchandise, amusement park attractions, cultural events, social media, and the comic strip, published in a variety of traditional print and digital formats. Additionally, in 2018, Peanuts entered into a multi-year Space Act Agreement with NASA. Space Act Agreement is a program designed to inspire a passion for space exploration and STEM in the next generation of children.
In Japan, Sony Creative Products Inc. acts as the agent and handles the licensing business. The original comic series celebrated its 70th anniversary on October 2, 2020. To commemorate this, the 70th anniversary year began on October 2, 2019.
