Jane Birkin to hold mini concert in disaster-stricken areas as part of Tohoku Support Project

Mar 13, 2013

Prior to her Japan tour, "Jane Birkin sings Serge Gainsbourg 'VIA JAPAN'," at Tokyo Opera City on March 28, Jane Birkin will visit junior high schools in Ishinomaki and Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture, disaster-stricken areas, on March 25, to perform a mini-concert.

Birkin is known for visiting Japan alone immediately after the earthquake, where she performed a concert to support recovery efforts and raise funds. This project was realized based on her desire to visit the affected areas, interact with children, and bring smiles to people's faces through music. The mini-concerts will be held at Ishinomaki Newze (Ishinomaki City) from 12:30 PM and at Shokado Confectionery (Matsushima Town) from 6:30 PM.

Supporting her on this tour will be pianist Nobuyuki Nakajima, the tour's musical director. She will also perform "Une Petite File (Little Girl)," a piece she composed in support of the earthquake recovery efforts.

In addition, in order to raise funds for the concert, the crowdfunding platform CAMPFIRE is being used to solicit donations. Donations will be used to cover concert production costs, press conference costs, staff travel and accommodation costs, and compensation for local staff. Supporters will receive perks such as a thank-you email message from Birkin. Jane Birkin herself will be participating in the project without compensation.
