An exhibition by Natsumi Hayashi, known for her floating self-portrait series "Today's Levitation," will be held at Aoyama Spiral Garden from March 26th.
The exhibition will bring together Hayashi's representative works, centered around works shot in Vietnam that will be shown in Japan for the first time. Planned exhibits include a large-scale work suspended in the atrium space at the back of the venue, an 8-meter-long panoramic work, and 3D works.
In addition, a pop-up shop for lingerie brand "une nana cool," which is supporting the exhibition, will open at the Spiral entrance to coincide with the exhibition. Along with this season's new products, limited-edition appliqués and postcards from "Today's Levitation" will be on sale. Hayashi's works will be gradually introduced at major stores nationwide, including the Kichijoji and Shibuya Parco stores, and three types of shopping bags featuring "Today's Levitation" works will also be released.
On New Year's Day 2011, Hayashi began a project called "Today's Levitation" on her blog, "Weak Camerawoman Diary," in which she posts one photo of herself floating in the air per day. She expanded her activities to Twitter and Facebook, and her works, which capture the actual moment of a jump while also appearing to defy gravity and create a paranormal phenomenon, have become a global hit. Her works have been featured in media outlets around the world, from personal blogs to major publications such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
