On March 15th, Ne-Net presented its 2013-2014 Autumn/Winter collection at Laforet Museum Harajuku. Designer Issei Takashima's 17th collection had the theme "animals." The show kicked off with the heavy guitar intro of DJ Shadow's "Border Crossing." The first look featured a leopard-print jacquard rider jacket and jodhpurs, paired with leopard-print and black smooth leather shoes. Other looks included leopard, giraffe, and animal-print knitwear, long-haired fabrics, raccoon scarves, and lion berets, all of which directly expressed the "animal" theme. As the background music shifted to a more pop tune, the collection shifted from earthy colors like beige and brown to pastels and neon colors like pale pink and vivid yellow. Cute items were proposed, including Peter Pan collar cardigans, hoodies sewn with chiffon cut like feathers, neon yellow leg warmers inspired by bird feet that even cover the shoes, platypus booties, and penguin bags.
The final chapter was Beastie Boys' "Rhymin' & Stealin'." The collection closed with mountain parkas and straight pants featuring a seal print by artist Miroko Machiko, and a pure white fur look made from freshly knitted silk floss, which designer Takashima herself said "came to Koyaguchi in Wakayama Prefecture and immediately felt the urge to create it." After the show, Takashima said, "Unlike previous shows which have tended to be conceptual, this one didn't overthink things and instead expressed 'kawaii' in a straightforward, natural way. By laying natural plywood on the runway and using teenage models who had no experience walking in a designer brand collection and who gave off a fresh, straightforward impression, I think we were able to express 'just as it is'."
