On March 18th, mintdesigns unveiled their 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection. The designers, Hokuto Katsui and Nao Yagi, created the collection with the theme "Dazzling Puzzling." The designers themselves described the collection as "a snapshot of the design process, where we enjoyed intersecting images before the theme and image were decided upon." The collection debuted at Gallery 916 in Minato Ward's Kaigan district, where they had been planning to use the collection for a year. The collection featured muted colors, a mix of stars, squares, and triangles, puzzle patterns, tweed made from nine different threads, including film yarn, and newly balanced check patterns. The mintdesigns' iconic scissors-holding girl and logo, as well as numbers and ant motifs from past collections, were disassembled and reconstructed in dark colors. The headpieces, symbolizing the season's theme, also feature motifs such as lightning bolts and phone numbers. The collection also featured techniques that seemed to reverse inner and outer layers.
Following on from their previous show, where they challenged themselves in a new direction for the next decade, replacing the product-like design they had pursued for the past 10 years, Mint Designs aimed to create something completely new this time as well. Katsui and Yagi said after the show, "We wanted to express the brilliance of light before inspiration strikes, the beauty of things that have been taken apart, like a puzzle, the beauty of chaos, and the image of not knowing what to do with the moment when something falls apart."
