Mintdesigns, the designer duo consisting of Hokuto Katsui and Nao Yagi, presented their 2013 Spring/Summer collection at Ebisu Garden Hall. The theme, "THE DARKSIDE ISSUE," was a stark departure from their usual pop image, showcasing the brand's "dark side." While the brand specializes in colorful prints, this time they used a black-and-white jacquard design to express the brand's dark side. Large paisley patterns, rabbit targets, and scattered chairs were featured. The fabric was produced in Kiryu, using a chintz finish, a technique that is now rarely used and is on the decline. It even lies behind the scenes of Japan's local industry. The print borders were layered to create a jagged effect, extending beyond the print itself. The designs featured patterns that added volume to the side backs and a spindle-shaped hem. A previously unseen compact set-up was also featured. "Now that the brand is celebrating its 10th anniversary, we have decided to focus on our areas of expertise. If we just keep doing the same thing over and over again, our customers and ourselves will get bored. We wanted to delve deeper into the areas we had been avoiding," said Yagi.
