Sónar, which launched in 1994, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Attracting audiences from over 90 countries each year, Sónar has established itself as a pioneering festival with a unique format and content that combines artistic entertainment with an avant-garde, experimental approach, and a wide range of cultures.

At its various events, the festival is renowned for its selection of main artists and lineups that incorporate the latest trends in constantly evolving electronic music. It is also garnering attention as a forum for the intersection of different genres.

In addition to its base in Barcelona, it is currently held annually in São Paulo and Cape Town, and has also been held in various major cities such as London, Frankfurt, Seoul, and Buenos Aires. The Tokyo event has been held since 2002. Last year, over 50 acts, including Squarepusher, Clark, Cinematic Orchestra, and Vincent Gallo, performed, creating a crossroads and highlights of various cultures. This year, the first day, April 6th, will be an all-night event recreating the atmosphere of the original Barcelona Sónar By Night, while the second day, April 7th, will be a day event starting in the afternoon, reminiscent of the original Sónar By Day. In addition, it has been announced that a satellite event, "A Taste of Sónar," will be held in Osaka on April 5th and 8th. "A Taste of Sónar" has previously been held in London and other cities, but this Osaka event will be its first in Japan. A particularly strong lineup of artists from "Sonar Sound Tokyo 2013" will be selected and will be held at two different venues. On the first day, Japanese artists who have previously performed at Sonar will perform, including Nicholas Jaar, Sherwood & Pinch, and Actress. On the second day, Karl Hyde of Underworld, who is currently making headlines for releasing a solo album, will perform with his band, as well as Dark Star and Artz from Japan.
