From April 3rd to April 29th, the Fendi art exhibition "FENDI—UN ART AUTRE—Another Art of Fendi, a Path of Creation and Innovation" will be held at the University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts.
The exhibition is curated by Emanuela Nobile Mino, an art historian and art critic active both in Italy and abroad. This will be the first such exhibition to be held anywhere in the world.
Fendi's history began in 1925 when the young couple Edoardo and Adele Fendi opened a leather goods store with an attached fur workshop in Rome. The fur creations that have been passed down for nearly 90 years since the company's founding are an important traditional technique that Mino describes as "the strongest and most fundamental element of Fendi's DNA." The exhibition will highlight Fendi's pioneering role in fur creation, highlighting the traditional value of its long-standing research while also showcasing the brand's evolutionary and experimental dynamics.
The exhibition is structured into four sections: the "Main Entrance/Facade," which introduces Fendi's history through vintage-style video; the "Introduction Room," which takes a video-driven approach to show the evolution and innovation of fur creation; the "Exhibition Room," featuring a semicircular modular brass display, which is the exhibition's focal point; and the "Fur Atelier," featuring a fur workshop where artisans demonstrate their work.
The lighting and color concept for the main exhibition room was created by internationally renowned American designer Johanna Grawunder, while the soundtrack, a fusion of traditional Italian music and international lounge music, was composed by Roman DJ and music producer Flavia Lazzarini.
