From Meiji craftsmen to Yohji Yamamoto: An event to consider the early days of Japanese Western clothing

On March 31st, the sixth Think of Fashion event, a gathering to consider culture and social phenomena related to people's clothing, will be held at Block House, a cafe and gallery in Jingumae, Shibuya Ward.

Fashion historian Anjo Toshiko and moderator Takagi Riyo will be guest speakers, and the event will focus on the historical background of the difficulties and struggles faced by Japanese designers who first encountered Western clothing culture during the Meiji period, under the theme "Rethinking Neo-Japonism - Overcoming the Difficulties of Western Clothing Design, from Meiji Craftsmen to Yamamoto Yohji." Furthermore, the event will reconsider the designer Yamamoto Yohji, who has often been associated with the traditions of kimono.

After the event, there will be an after-talk with the speakers.
