Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the developer of MUJI, will begin accepting monthly flat-rate service for MUJI furniture, including beds, desks, chairs, and storage items, at 182 stores across Japan from January 15th.

■Providing the option of using furniture rather than purchasing
MUJI is mindful of the earth and the times, and aims to solve various social issues by simplifying and beautifying lifestyles through products and services that are the foundation of daily life. Amidst the dramatic changes in working styles due to the impact of COVID-19 and other factors, in order to meet the demand for creating a comfortable working environment at home, we offered a limited-time monthly flat-rate service for approximately three months from July 2020, offering a set of six MUJI and ID&E furniture and interior goods. This service was well received. In response to the many requests for a service that offered individual items rather than sets, we will launch a new monthly flat-rate service for individual furniture starting Friday, January 15, 2021, allowing customers to "use" the items they need in the quantity and for the period they need, rather than purchasing them. To make this service more accessible to more customers, we will expand the number of participating stores from seven last year to 182. By offering the option of "buying" or "renting," we will propose ways to select furniture that suit each individual customer's lifestyle.

■Monthly Flat-Rate Service for Furniture, the Foundation of Everyday Life
We have selected versatile, simple products, such as MUJI beds, desks, chairs, and storage furniture, that can be easily replaced and maintained. You can use them for an affordable monthly flat-rate without any large upfront costs. We offer annual contracts of 1, 2, 3, or 4 years. Upon the expiration of your selected plan, you can choose to cancel and return the furniture, extend the contract, or continue using it for a purchase fee.

By using this service, you can avoid worrying about furniture disposal when changing your lifestyle and also help reduce waste. Furthermore, we will not dispose of furniture returned at the end of the contract, but will recycle it to help reduce waste. We plan to replace parts and perform maintenance, then reuse the items as a monthly flat-rate service or sell them as used items. We hope to continue to co-create with our customers a "comfortable life" that embraces the changing lifestyles of our customers and allows them to enjoy simplicity and frugality, knowing that "this is good enough."
