Shiseido's prestige skincare brand "THE GINZA" launches its first fragrance

The Ginza Co., Ltd., a Shiseido subsidiary engaged in the development, planning, and sale of cosmetics, is pleased to announce that its prestige skincare brand, THE GINZA, which pursues timeless essence, will launch its first fragrances, "THE GINZA Parfum" and "THE GINZA Eau de Parfum," in Japan at its directly managed stores and online shop from January 8, 2021, with "THE GINZA Eau de Parfum" available in domestic duty-free stores from February 1.


Ginza is a district where numerous streets intersect like a grid, lined with long-established shops and historic art galleries. THE GINZA was born in a fashion boutique on this corner. Around the same time as this fragrance was born, the scent of linden flowers began to envelop the streets of Ginza. The fragrant aroma of flowers and the fresh, vibrant greenery of early summer continue to permeate the area today, unchanged.

A blissful fragrance emerges from Ginza, a city that knows timeless essence. The scent of linden flowers blooming in full glory along Ginza's tree-lined streets has been individually sampled and recreated, successfully capturing the very essence of their elegance. This Ginza-born fragrance, also a beloved skincare scent since The Ginza's founding, will stimulate, soothe, and fulfill your senses. It will leave you feeling as if your true self is being refined.

Based on the flowers of the linden tree that blooms in Ginza, the top notes are the fresh natural fragrance of domestic sudachi, leading to a soothing middle note that makes you feel as if you are wearing a floral bouquet.

The last notes are a soft, deep musky scent that spreads, leading to a time of peace and tranquility that fills the soul with the light sweetness of brown sugar. A true fragrance that further refines your inner beauty.

■Bottle and packaging design
In addition to the brand's simple, minimalist worldview, the bottle design is not simply square, but expresses the "fluctuation" unique to fragrance.

To make the expression of fluctuation more visible, the parfum has been vapor-deposited with aurora vapor deposition only on the reverse side.

The color changes depending on the angle of the surface as the spectrum is reflected. By using the reverse side, we have also taken into consideration the interest and charm of the other side when viewed from the front through the glass and fragrance, as well as a subtle elegance.

Each exquisitely crafted and beautiful parfum bottle is made by hand from scratch by Japanese artisans through a total of nine steps. The manufacturing process is extremely meticulous and is the culmination of techniques that can be considered traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Of the nine steps, there are five polishing steps alone, and all of the semi-artificial polishing, rimming, and polishing are done by hand by skilled artisans with many years of experience in the field.

When I give a gift to someone special, I often choose something with a background or a story behind it, and when I heard that this fragrance is based on the scent of linden flowers, which have lined the tree-lined streets of Ginza since The Ginza was opened as a boutique in 1975, I thought it would be wonderful to be able to tell that story if I gave it to someone as a gift.
