Mar 21, 2016

JR Kyoto Isetan will be holding the "Bread Festival: Living with Bread and Coffee" from March 23rd to 28th. Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City have the highest per-household bread consumption in Japan, respectively. In response to this, JR Kyoto Isetan is hosting a festival featuring renowned bread and coffee shops in the Kansai region. Offerings include French toast from Bruges Rakuhoku in Kyoto, koppepan (rolled bread) from Yuukipan in Osaka, and Venetiana from Tamade Kimuraya. Other items on offer include organic wheat bread from Nakagawa Komugiten, a renowned Kyoto shop that uses domestic ingredients; croissants made with Kyoto wheat from Boulangerie Opera; and baguettes from Boulangerie L'Oiseau Bleu, which specializes in gluten-free options. Additionally, bread and coffee from popular shops will be on sale daily. On the 23rd and 24th, fresh bread from Nogami Hanare in Kyoto and original blend coffee from Drip & Drip Coffee Supply will be available. On the 25th and 26th, you can enjoy a baguette from Signifiant Signifie and Circus Coffee from Kyoto, while on the 27th and 28th, you can enjoy a limited-edition cream bun from Backhaus Irie in Hyogo and Akatsuki Coffee from Kyoto. (Numbered tickets will be distributed in advance for the daily specials.)

Also, Maruyama Coffee in Nagano Prefecture will be serving coffee by Yoshinobu Nakayama, who won last year's Japan Siphonist Championship. At Micafeto in Tokyo, you can enjoy coffee made from beans from coffee hunter Yoshiaki Kawashima, as well as coffee made in a different, more environmentally friendly field using a special selection method. Other items on sale include the popular Balmuda toaster, known for its ability to bake bread crispy and moist, cups and saucers from Trunk Coffee, a popular coffee shop in Nagoya, and Eura coffee makers, along with other specialty coffees and equipment for authentic coffee enjoyment.
