Mar 27, 2016

"Discover Another KYOTO: Rediscovering Kyoto by the Sea" will be held from March 30th to April 4th at the event space on the 10th floor of JR Kyoto Isetan, showcasing the world of "Kyoto by the Sea," a mook filled with the charms of the Tango and Tamba regions in northern Kyoto Prefecture, legendary as the "hometown of the food god." The "Kyoto by the Sea" area, which is said to be the birthplace of rice cultivation and sake, is a region made up of seven cities and towns in northern Kyoto Prefecture: Miyazu, Kyotango, Maizuru, Ayabe, Fukuchiyama, Yosano, and Ine in Yosa District. The exhibition will introduce the world of "Discover Japan Travel: Kyoto by the Sea," a mook published on March 25th and compiled by Discover Japan, a magazine that promotes the finest people, experiences, and products in Japan, in the Kyoto by the Sea area, which can be said to be the source of Japanese food and manufacturing, through photos and videos by creators who have traveled to the area. The seven creators who traveled to each region this time were art director Issei Kitagawa in Miyazu City, musician Gontiti in Kyotango City, artist Katsuhiko Hibino in Maizuru City, kyogen performer Ippei Shigeyama in Fukuchiyama City, flower arrangement master Senko Ikenobo in Ayabe City, washi paper artist Eriko Horiki in Yosano Town, and actor Arata Iura in Ine Town. Other products on sale include "Kurotani Washi," a handmade washi paper said to have been made in Ayabe City for approximately 800 years; "Ine Mankai," a rose-colored sake made with ancient rice from Mukai Sake Brewery; and original merchandise from Maizuru Red Brick Park, whose nostalgic streets date back to the days of the Imperial Japanese Navy. A talk show featuring Naoki Tachikawa, producer of the Seaside Kyoto Exploration Project, and Takeshi Kadokami, editorial advisor for "Ama-Kara Techo," will be held from 3:00 PM on March 30th.

This event allows you to enjoy encountering "good things" that make use of ingredients, from food to products, that are a part of the traditions that run through Seaside Kyoto.
