The closing event for photographer Yusuke Nishimura's photo exhibition "The Folk," currently being held at the IMA gallery inside the IMA CONCEPT STORE in Roppongi, Tokyo, will be a talk show featuring Nishimura and Noritaka Tatehana, creative director of NORITAKA TATEHANA, on the final day, April 2nd.

The exhibition "The Folk" is based on "The Folk," a photo book by Yusuke Nishimura featuring photographs of local performing arts from across Japan. After encountering local performing arts at a Meiji Shrine festival and becoming captivated by their intense charm, Yusuke Nishimura has been pursuing these traditional performing arts across Japan for the past three and a half years. By photographing performers in front of a black curtain, including the "Sagimai" dance of Tsuwano Yasaka Shrine in Shimane Prefecture, the "Tenshomai Ukitate" dance of Ichikawa in Saga Prefecture, and the "Paantu" dance of Miyakojima in Okinawa Prefecture, the exhibition will feature a number of photographs capturing a sacred yet fierce dynamism.

This talk show will feature Noritaka Tatehana, director of "TATEHANA BUNRAKU: The Love Suicides on the Bridge / Nomadic Nights," a stage production of Bunraku puppet theater, one of Japan's traditional performing arts, which was held at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris in March of this year. Together with Tatehana, who is active on the global stage, the talk will discuss the significance of sharing Japanese culture with the world.
