A photo exhibition of the world's most elegant group of gentlemen, the "Sapeurs," titled "THE SAPEUR: The World's Most Stylish Gentlemen Met in Congo," will be held on the 7th floor of Seibu Shibuya Building A from March 29th to April 10th. The "Sapeurs" are a fashion culture that has been passed down for over 90 years in the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are a group of fashionistas who value peace and non-conflict, and who take pride in and are passionate about elegance, pouring their passion into high-end clothing. This exhibition features photographs by Okinawa-based photographer Kunio Chano, featuring the sophisticated culture and lifestyle of the Sapeurs. The photos are divided into six categories based on the "rules of being a Sapeur." The "Introduction" section explores the fashion that adds a touch of elegance to the lives of those living in poverty, with an average monthly income of 30,000 yen. The "Mind Rules" section features photographs and comments taken during visits to the homes of these iconic figures, showcasing a blend of everyday and extraordinary fashion. Other categories include "Color Rules," which will showcase interviews and comments on styling techniques such as gradations that use three colors to create a look, and the "demidaka" technique of using different colors for the top and bottom; "Posing Rules," which will feature dynamic photos accompanied by videos of people walking and showing off their unique steps; and "Particular Rules," which will introduce musicians with unique styles and unique Sapeurs. The final section will be a comprehensive exhibition of Congolese culture, where spending money on fashion and dressing up enriches one's life. Also, on the opening day of the exhibition, Severin (Daniel Severin MOUTENGO), a Sapeur who was one of the subjects of the photo shoot, will be making his first visit to Japan. He is scheduled to perform light and nimble steps in his favorite outfit.
