From March 11th to 27th, a pop-up shop for "JOJO," a beach sandal by Naito, a long-established footwear store in Gion, Kyoto, and a photo exhibition by photographer Yokosuka Noriaki will be held at BIOTOP, a select shop in Shirokanedai, Tokyo.
JOJO is a "new style of beach sandal" proposed by Naito, a long-established footwear manufacturer that has been making shoes for over 100 years since 1875. This project was launched with the desire to transform traditional footwear, now considered out of the ordinary, into something that is closer to everyday life and can communicate with the world. The new style of beach sandal was created using traditional Japanese wisdom and methods.
The venue's spatial design by HIGASHIGUMI brings together JOJO, which aims to create products that can communicate with the world, and the work of Yokosuka Noriaki, who continues to explore the possibilities of photography and is now a global influence. Also scheduled for release will be limited edition models in colors exclusive to JOJO by Biotope, as well as works by Yokosuka Noriaki.
Yokosuka Noriaki was a photographer active from the 1960s to the 1990s. While studying photography at Nihon University College of Art, he created posters for Shiseido, which quickly became a landmark in advertising photography. In the late 1970s, he gained worldwide recognition as the first Japanese photographer to work on collaborative projects between Yamaguchi Sayoko and Sankai Juku, brand images for Miyake Issey, and the German, Italian, and French editions of Vogue.
