Photographer Shoji Ueda's "Horizon of That Era: Shoji Ueda's Fashion Photography Exhibition" will be held at Atsuko Baru in Shibuya, Tokyo, from April 16th to May 29th.
Ueda Shoji, who described himself as a "lifelong amateur photographer," took his first fashion photographs in 1983, when he was already 70 years old. These images, which effortlessly transcended the boundaries of fashion photography up to that point, shocked people in all walks of life.
The exhibition will reexamine "that era" by showcasing fashion photographs taken by Shoji Ueda in the 1980s. There will also be a series of talk sessions featuring witnesses to the 1980s, a time when art, fashion, graphics, and other cultures reached a peak.
From 5pm to 7pm on April 16th, designer Takeo Kikuchi and former High Fashion editor-in-chief Taguchi Yoshiko will be appearing, from 7pm to 9pm on the 22nd, stylists Mie Hataki and Non Nakamura will be appearing, from 7pm to 9pm on the 28th, actor Shiro Sano and Hiroshi Masutani of Ueda Shoji Agency will be appearing, and from 7pm to 9pm on May 14th, former Magazine House editor-in-chief Ishikawa Jiro, former Magazine House editorial director Morinaga Hiroshi, and translator Horiuchi Hanako will be appearing. The price for each event is 1,500 yen, including one drink.
In addition, a free opening party is scheduled to be held from 7pm to 9pm on April 16th.
