On February 13th, Japanese brands specializing in leather products held the "LEATHER JAPAN 2013" event during New York Fashion Week. Eight brands participated in the event, supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, with the aim of showcasing the craftsmanship and high quality of Japanese leather goods to the world. The theme was "Tokyo A bout," which conveyed the idea that fashion brands would compete globally with cutting-edge Tokyo-mix culture. The approximately hour-long event, held at "BOX" inside Lincoln Center, the official venue for New York Fashion Week, featured a performance by the band "TURTLE ISLAND," which blends Western and Asian sounds with Japanese drumming and music, as well as a presentation of new products from "blackmeans" and "SASQATCHfabrix."
In addition, a box set up in front of the stage displayed works by "genten," "ED ROBERT JUDSON," accessories brand "e.m.", shoe brands "Hender Scheme" and "INI," and "KENJI AMADANA," a collaborative IT and fashion brand by Kenji Ikeda and Amadana. It showcased a sense of "iki" (coolness) based on Japanese craftsmanship.
After the event, the brand will also participate in the joint exhibition "Coterie" to be held in New York from February 24th (Sun) to 26th (Tue), where new works will be exhibited for overseas buyers.
