Aiming to become a city landmark, Isetan Shinjuku has restored the main entrance to its original appearance in 1933

Feb 25, 2013

To coincide with its grand opening on March 6th, Isetan Shinjuku will restore the main entrance of its main building to its original appearance in 1933.
When Isetan Shinjuku first opened in Shinjuku in 1933, its two-story atrium entrance was the signature feature of the new store. A chandelier hung from the atrium ceiling and brackets were installed on both sides of the wall, creating a majestic atmosphere. However, around 1941, during the war, a metal collection order was issued, and the chandelier, brackets, and other items were removed and donated.
Since then, the decoration and location have changed due to renovations, but restoration work began in 2012 using the remaining original parts and original construction photographs. It is scheduled for completion in March of this year.
This restoration was realized based on the company's desire to recreate the "desired department store" image of the time of its opening, while also maintaining its status as a "city landmark" as a historically valuable building worthy of being "the world's greatest fashion store."
