Paris Fashion Week kicked off on February 26th. Steffie Christiaens, whose show was held on the first day, had the theme of her Fall/Winter 2013-14 collection, "THE DANCE OF THE MODERN LIFE." Inspired by Sufi dancer Ziya Azazi, the designer incorporated the relationship between technology and spirituality, and nature and civilization, into her designs. The color palette included warm hues like burgundy and golden caramel, as well as cooler shades of steel gray and black. Curved, voluminous jackets and dresses were paired with square-paneled skirts and quilted details with graphic stitching, while draped silk dresses were accented with metallic belts at the waist. Each look evoked the opposing elements of nature and industry.
Bags that combine hard leather and quilting, and suede boots with wooden heels that resemble building blocks, all have designs that are almost like collages.
Christianz studied fashion at ArtEZ in Arnhem, Netherlands, and IFM in Paris, and after working as an assistant at Maison Martin Margiela and Balenciaga, he founded his own brand in 2010. He has been participating in Paris Fashion Week since the 2011-12 Autumn/Winter collection.
