Mugler has opened a bag pop-up shop at the Joyce Gallery in Paris (168/173 GALERIE DE VALOIS, Paris 75001). It will run until March 1st.
In a space decorated with aluminum foil reminiscent of Andy Warhol's atelier, "The Factory," Ryuichi Sakamoto's music plays, and a variety of bags, including blue and white, seven-color holograms, and python, are lined up like works of art.
Mugler's bag collection debuted in the Spring/Summer 2013 season. This collection featured clothing that mixed images of countries near the equator with the atmosphere of the works of 1970s photographer Guy Bourdin, styled with shoes created in collaboration with Massaro and these bags, embodying the modern Mugler woman. At the reception party held to celebrate the pop-up shop, creative director Nicola Formichetti appeared with a special bag featuring a handwritten Nico Panda design. "This project was only recently decided upon, so it's truly a 'pop-up.' The bags are selling really well, so I really wanted to show them to people who came to Paris Fashion Week, and Joyce kindly lent me the space. I simply wanted to show them off," he explained.
The following evening, on the 27th, Mugler's Fall/Winter 2013-14 collection will be shown. "So, I shouldn't really be here right now, I have to go back to the atelier (laughs). But I'm happy because I don't get many opportunities to meet people like this during Paris Fashion Week. The collection I'm presenting tomorrow will be a completely different collection, mixing a bit of the '60s with a bit of the '90s. Both bags and shoes will be featured," he confided.
This bag collection is available in Japan at Isetan Shinjuku and Hankyu Umeda Main Store. Additionally, a pop-up shop featuring men's and women's clothing collections will be held at the gallery in April.
