On November 3rd, Gap released a holiday campaign video directed by film director Sofia Coppola.
The video, with the tagline "To the familiar you who seems familiar but doesn't," expresses the "Dress Normal" message launched in the fall season. It consists of four parts, two of which are scheduled to air on television in the US and UK.
"Gauntlet" features a woman wearing a crazy striped sweater, a must-have item this season. She returns home to her hometown and reunites with her mother, spending the weekend surrounded by her eccentric cousins, high-energy aunt, and other family members. With the nostalgic background music of Johnny Cash's "I Got Stripes," the video portrays a festive yet homey atmosphere. Other films being released at the same time include "Mistletoe," which follows a meeting between a man and a woman at a party; "Crooner," in which a boy in a Fair Isle sweater sings old hits; and "Pinball," which shows a woman in a leather biker jacket playing pinball in a restaurant. Campaign posters will also be released to coincide with the release. These posters, themed around the challenges of buying lots of gifts for family, feature a photo of a woman in a Fair Isle sweater with the caption "when all you really know about her is that you really like her," and a photo of a little boy in a crazy-striped sweater with the caption "you've got a nephew who is already cooler than you." Global President Steve Sunacks said, "Sofia Coppola has brought this second chapter of dress normality to life with this holiday film series, with the same faithful and honest tone as the previous series."
