Gucci x Tamamushi Lacquer Watch Released in Japan, Part 2 of Tohoku Reconstruction Support

Nov 18, 2014

On December 1st, Gucci will release an interlocking watch in collaboration with Tamamushi-nuri, a traditional craft passed down in Tohoku. This is the second installment of a project aimed at supporting recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. This Japan-exclusive watch features a 3D pyramid-designed dial by designer Koichiro Kimura and Tamamushi-nuri, a traditional craft designated by Miyagi Prefecture. Tamamushi-nuri is a lacquerware coating technique named after the unique shine of the lacquer, which resembles the iridescent wings of a jewel beetle. The bezel features an "Interlocking G" motif, combining two Gs, the initials of Guccio Gucci, founder of Gucci. The sapphire crystal case is also engraved with the Gucci logo, and the case back is engraved with "LIMITED EDITION." Two models will be released: a brushed black model (case diameter 37mm) and a white stainless steel model (case diameter 29mm).

The black model is priced at 185,000 yen, and the white model at 165,000 yen. The black model is limited to 75 pieces, and the white model is limited to 100 pieces. Advance sales have begun at the Sendai Fujisaki Gucci Shop and Gucci watch retailers in Tohoku. 20% of sales will be donated to support the recovery efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake.

In addition, this fall, the "Watch Artisan Corner," which embodies the quality and craftsmanship of Gucci watches, will be held in Sendai (ended), Nagoya (November 21st to 24th), and Kyoto (November 28th to 30th).
