H&M will release its collaborative collection with Alexander Wang, "Alexander Wang x H&M," at 10 a.m. on November 6th.

This collaboration has already been a hot topic even before the collection's release, and we interviewed Alexander Wang via email to ask about the creation of the collection.


--When you heard about this collaboration, did you immediately decide to accept the proposal?

We've been talking about it for a while, and this season seems like the perfect time for a collaboration. I'm very excited and honored to be working on H&M's 10th anniversary and to be the first American designer to collaborate with H&M. I think it's the right time to let H&M fans around the world know where the Alexander Wang brand is and what it's doing today.

--Have you discovered or learned anything new while creating this collection with H&M? I've always wanted to create a collection rooted in performance and sportswear. Technological fibers and innovative constructions have always inspire and intrigue me. It's wonderful to work with these materials and new technologies, and to be able to design pieces with our own sensibilities. I love functional clothing that's not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. Sometimes I innovate in manufacturing methods to create simple pieces with minimalist stitching, like a windproof and waterproof parka. Other times, I use new techniques to further enhance a design, like an air-infused knit that creates a striking, three-dimensional crocodile pattern. It was an incredible experience for me to learn these new techniques and manufacturing methods. -How did you decide on the designs and lineup for your collection? I wanted this collection to offer a complete wardrobe, and the Alexander Wang x H&M collection to be beautiful from head to toe. I also wanted this collection to be accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of their occasion or need, whether they're looking for functional clothing for working out, urban elements for wearing around town, or stylish clothing for going out with friends. I carefully curated this collection, so every piece has an important meaning.

--Who do you want to wear your collection?

One of the great things about H&M is that such a popular brand has made fashion accessible to so many people around the world. I created this collection without a specific type of person in mind. I can't wait for it to be released to see who will buy each piece and how they will wear it.

The collaborative collections between H&M and designers are always sold out immediately after release. A book summarizing the 10-year history of these collaborations will also be released on November 6th.
