Japan's largest H&M Kyoto opens. COS sales exceed expectations

Nov 28, 2014

H&M KYOTO, the first store in Kyoto, will open on November 29th. The seven-story building, spanning from the basement to the sixth floor, will have a total sales floor area of 34 million square meters, making it the largest in Japan to date.

Men's items are sold on the basement floor, women's items on floors 1-4, girls' items on floor 5, and boys' items on floor 6. The store will also carry a full concept line, including women's sportswear and maternity items.
Women's items, based on a red and black theme, will be available exclusively at H&M KYOTO. The lineup includes a long dress for ¥6,490, a sleeveless dress for ¥7,490, a camisole for ¥2,490, sequined shorts for ¥5,490, and a sequined shorts-in-one for ¥6,490. Additionally, the first 100 customers on opening day will receive an original H&M KYOTO clutch bag.

At the opening of the Kyoto store, H&M Japan President Christine Edman said, "We've almost completed opening stores in major cities. From now on, we'd like to open stores in the suburbs," and hopes to spread the image of H&M as a convenient store like a convenience store that families will want to visit every day. Regarding "COS," which recently opened its first store in Aoyama, she expressed surprise, saying, "I can't disclose the figures, but we were able to start with sales that exceeded our expectations. Word of mouth spreads faster in Japan than in other countries." Regarding future domestic store openings for COS, she would only say, "There's no doubt we'll have multiple stores, but we're still considering where the next store will be."
