The Italian Embassy held the "Franciacorta 1st Anniversary Party 2014" on November 13th. Franciacorta is a sparkling wine produced in Lombardy, northern Italy. The party, celebrating the first anniversary of the Franciacorta Association's Japan office, was attended by Naomi Kawashima, Yayota Maho, model Melody Yoko, fashion director Yoshimasa Hoshiba, Francesco Bellissimo, Don Konishi, and Yuta Nakano. Guests enjoyed Franciacorta. In 1995, Franciacorta became the first Italian wine made using the secondary bottle fermentation method to receive the DOCG (Denomination of Origin Controlled by Guaranteed Designation of Origin). Of the wines made using this method, only Cava, Champagne, and Franciacorta are allowed to display only the designation on the label. Franciacorta uses three grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Nero, and Pinot Bianco. Hand-harvesting is mandatory, and the grapes are pressed with minimal pressure. The free range is extracted to create the base wine. It is then aged for a minimum of 18 months, with some varieties aging for as long as 60 months. After that, the bottle is rotated and turned downwards, allowing the yeast sediment to settle at the neck of the bottle over a three- to four-week period known as "remuage." Franciacorta is the official beverage of Milan Fashion Week, and since January 2014, it has also been served on Alitalia's Magnifica business class flights. It is classified into five categories based on the grape variety used and aging period, and a wide variety of flavors, from dry to sweet, can be enjoyed depending on the amount of liqueur used.
