On November 3rd, German luxury watch brand A. Lange & Söhne held a one-day art event at the East Side Gallery to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The Berlin Wall fell on November 9th, 1989. The reunification of East and West Germany paved the way for the revitalization of Saxony's luxury watch industry, ushering in a new era for the brand.
The art event was created by street artist Jakub Holtig. He spray-painted a Lange 1 watch on a remnant of the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery. This Lange 1 was one of the first collections released after A. Lange & Söhne's restoration. The date represents November 9th, the day the Berlin Wall fell, and the time represents 6:53 PM, the time when East German citizens were immediately granted the freedom to leave the country.
Jakub Holtig is one of the artisans in charge of decorative finishing at A. Lange & Söhne. He discovered graffiti art at the age of 13, and painted his first piece on the wall of his grandfather's garage. Since then, he has mainly worked with brush strokes and stencils, which are created using a type of paper with patterns cut out. For Holtig, whose work in the workshop requires intense concentration, such artistic actions seem to be an important part of his life.
